DESCRIPTION

Industry pursuit of increasingly stringent process control and safety requirements led to an early adaptation of computational techniques in this field. Today, a wide range of computing devices, ranging from imbedded microprocessors to dedicated computers, is commonly employed throughout the industry. This class explores the technical foundations of process and control instrumentation in use, and covers the practical aspects of its deployment and control.

BENEFIT

  •  Basics of I&C including the different control functions, the types of control loops, and continuous vs. discrete control.
  • Identification and symbols used in I&C.
  • Different types of field instrumentation.
  • Requirements for control rooms and the design of control panels.
  • Concepts and implementation of alarm and trip systems.
  • Different types of computer-based control systems including PLCs and DCSs as well as review the basic requirements for good operator interface.
  • Documentation required for I&C, for front-end engineering.
  • Requirements for a successful installation, instrument checkout, and controller tuning.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This course addresses both general and specific knowledge of the field of Instrumentation and Industrial Process Control, which is invaluable to Plant Planners, Plant and Operations Managers, Engineers, and Technical Personnel who wish to enhance their understanding of the practical issues associated with I & C Planning, Installation and Maintenance. The class is intended for technical personnel and managers who would like to learn about the field of I&C in a condensed time frame from a practical point of view, and to communicate with I&C personnel. This course has no prerequisites; however, prior technical training in engineering, sciences or equivalent experience will be helpful.
