PREVENTIVE & PREDICTIVE MAINTENANCE

PREVENTIVE & PREDICTIVE MAINTENANCE
Bandung | February 15-17, 2012 | IDR 7.250.000,-/ Person

Course Introduction

Current competitions on product price and product quality have introduced complex production systems, which are more efficient and effective. Health, environment and safety are also other pressure for such production systems. This jump of complexity of the production systems requires also a paradigm shift in the philosophy of maintenance, in order to achieve effective and efficient production systems, without increasing maintenance cost or downtime. The Preventive and Predictive Maintenance are the most common strategy to overcome this problem.

Preventive maintenance determines the priority of maintenance tasks based on the failure consequences of functional failure being analyzed and the applicability and the effectiveness of the maintenance tasks. Predictive maintenance is an advancement of inspection methods to monitor closely the condition of critical equipments to avoid expensive repair costs as well as a long downtime

This course elaborates the challenges in maintenance practices where safety and costs are the main issues. As a basis, five of the most important distribution functions in the reliability theory are discussed shortly. The concept of maintenance is explained after discussing some definitions with respect to failures and degradation types, as the core of the course. The process of Preventive maintenance task selection requires an identification of function, functional failure, failure modes and failure effects (FMEA), as well as an understanding on the specific characteristics of each maintenance task. A compilation of FMEA and task selection becomes the logic of preventive maintenance, normally called RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance). This course discusses also some examples of application.

Predictive maintenance is a strategy to assess equipment condition and to predict the equipment’s life before functional failure. The most common method is the vibration analysis. Therefore this course focuses more on the vibration method. It consists of the basics of vibration, data acquisition, signals processing and fault diagnosis. Other predictive maintenance methods will be discussed shortly.

How You Can Benefit From This Course

  • The key objective of this course is to describe a method in order to increase the availability of production equipments and reduce maintenance cost by implementing preventive and predictive maintenance.
  • The second objective, but not less important, is to ensure that the safety effects of functional failures are not overlooked.
  • Specific for maintenance engineers, this course will describe how to develop a cost-effective maintenance program by using RCM. It is also important for maintenance planners, supervisors and maintenance managers to understand the required information to develop a cost-effective maintenance program.
  • Understand the theoretical background of maintenance concept and the logic of preventive maintenance (RCM).
  • Able to set of vibration measurement tools and to analyse vibration signals.
  • Understand the principles to measure vibration as well as other methods of predictive maintenance.
